EnCompassCulture - the global bookclub

The website is not fancy, but practical! I like the create book list! It is much easier than "NEXTREADS"...
The book review is also good and I always like reading book reviews. However, I think it is only one of those book website, and not the best... in my opinion!
It will be good to introduce to the customers to that they have another choice.
I like the "Latest News" and it will give me an idea of what's going on!
Also, if a customer want to read a book of a special topic, this website is very helpful to choose the right book! Good for reader advisory!!

Shareslide

I really like Shareslide, for I create many presentations for my church, and many people wants my presentation. Usually I will email to them, but sometimes the file is too big and make it difficult for me to send. Now I can use this web to share my presentations.

I upload one of my presentations and hope you will enjoy it!

I try to view "Library" presentation, but got problems. Maybe I can try later.

TasteSpotting

I like cooking and this is a very good website! Maybe I can share some of my great recipe with other people!

There are a lot of recipes I like! However, I choose a very simple one - Carrot Cake -Moist yet fluffy. Since there are so many ways to make carrot cakes, so I browse each one and hope I can try out everyone and tell you which is the best carrot cake recipe! Anyway, I have my own unique carrot cake recipe!!

Fun with PicApp

AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND - JULY 25: (L-R) Manukau City Mayor Len Brown and Prime Minister John Key attend the opening of the new SH20 Manukau Bridge on July 25, 2010 in Auckland, New Zealand. The Manukau Harbour Crossing project involved doubling the traffic capacity of SH20 to provide four traffic lanes in each direction across the Manukau Harbour. (Photo by Hannah Johnston/Getty Images)

The fun of using Picapp!!!I use "John Key" as my search, and it gives me many photos that the descriptions begins with John Key...
I choose this photo because it is the opening of the SH20 manukau harbour crossing which is very important to Manukau rate payers... that is me... haha...The two politician also looks funny on their facial expression.
Well, what are they thinking when the slapshot was taken?

Web 2.0 round 2

Well, it is good to know that there are other website that can suppport uploading a file. I use Google Doc a lot, but sometimes, when customers do not have a google account, it is quit frustrated to set up a new account for them. Therefore it is good to know that they have other choice.
I like it, for the upload time is quick too.
I will probably show my customers.

Complete... WEB2.0

After having annual for 3 weeks, finally I pick up to write the blog again!

I feel good completing the Web2.0 and expect to have more on line training.

This time it is more fun and useful, also very easy instruction to follow! I really enjoy very much!

Thanks to the designer.... hahaha... give you a big hug... digital service!!

Face book experence

I have used face book for a while, so that I can keep a contact with many young friends. Therefore when I heard that China had block facebook, I felt disappointed. However, I think facebook is still for young people! I tried to search my schoolmates, but none were on the face book!! Very strange!!
I think our patrons can use the facebook to share the information on books, events and their view upon our service. It is very good, but only many people did not like to expose their private life.
Sometimes, when people keep sending me rubbish through facebook, I really feel annoyed! For I would like the facebook to be a space that I can share my ideas with friends only! And not doing boring games!
I have introduce facebook to some of the customers, some of them loves it, but some don't...
Well anyway, it is a social website we can promote!

Music files and mp3s

Have a break for a week, it is time to pick up and write the blog again!

I am not a rock fan, and I do not have mp3, so I really do not know anything about MP3. However, as a librarian, I think I need to know more in order to help the customers. Thanks for providing all those websites, and it is very useful. I will copy those webs and get ready to offer to the patrons.

For myself, I would like to use Amazon MP3 Store , for it is so good, clear and easy. I just need to type the song title and search, then I can have a choice to preview. And it cost less than a dollar to download, it is very cheap!

One question, after download to our computer, can we burn into a CD so that we can play on our CD player?

How to rip a MP3 music file to a .wav file? What is the best way to do it?

MP3.com is also a good web, but those songs aren't my cup of tea!!

Week 4 - Good Reading

I really like Good Reading!
Since I do not read a lot of English Books, I really would like to know about books and how other people feel about that so that I can talk to the customers.
The website provide a lot of books reviews, good and bad, an excellent reader advisory tool for me!!
I really enjoy this website and like to browse other's book review! Very interesting!
If you can read Chinese, you may like to see my book review of Chinese Books in the Manukau Website. Just click on the following link!

First time Twitter

Wow! It is excited to learn something I heard a lot but never try to sign up!!!
Well signing up is easy, and I can find @manukau_lib easily and start following...
I invited some friend to be the follower but I am using a lot on face book and do not know I would use Twitter or not.
However, using Twitter as a net among our staff in the work room is a good idea. Also, at the moment our training team is sending out Tips of the month through email.. may be we can use Twitter to share some good tips at work.
I am not sure the customer would like to use it or not... but it is good to encourage young people to use it. Maybe there summer reading programme!
I will promote to the customer so that they can always connect with the library and know what's happening!

week 2 - format a file using Zamzar

It is a very easy tool!
Only that I have to open the email to get it! Since the 2007 word can also save a file as PDF so it will not be very useful!
I have not try to format a html file to a word file, maybe I can try to do it later.
However, it will be useful to change a docx file to a doc file for I only got a lower version at home. It is very convenient that I can use this free on-line service.
I will for sure to introduce to borrowers in my computer classes! Would you like to have a go!
